It’s no secret that I am a fan of Shakespeare in fact you might even say “We’re involved”
I was watching Romeo and Juliet today (the Baz Lurman version if you’re interested – although I do own the version with tights and prancing boys with swords) and like always I got thinking. So here it is.
Life lessons learnt from Romeo and Juliet.
Lesson One: Don’t kill yourself – no matter how romantic you think it might be, unless you want to be remembered for being selfish moron.
Keep in mind I am a lover of Shakespeare and his work I think R+J is an amazing play, but, really wasn’t Romeo just an oblivious fickle boy and Juliet a starry eyed child?
To harsh? Consider this at the start of the play Romeo is heart sick over Rosaline.

Not having that, which, having, makes them short.

Out of her favour, where I am in love.

After a love at first sight meeting with Juliet in a crowded party he has ‘forgot that name (Rosaline), and that names woe’ The only reason R+J is a love story is because it is a tragedy if they had been less selfish, worked out there love maybe it would have worked out, but, for some reason I’m a little cynical, it seems likely to me that Romeo would have gotten bored and dropped Juliet as fast as he did Rosaline.
We never know cause they die, how selfish. I find myself wondering what happened to Rosaline? I reckon she got the better end of the deal.
Lesson learned – don’t kill yourself.
Lesson Two: Don’t start a post you are not committed to finishing - ( even when is about your favourite play.)
Ok so this is just my perfectly clever way of getting out of writing any more tonight… falling for it? No? Didn’t think so.
How about this then.

Seven completely useless things I have learnt from R+J.
Completely useless thing one: Carrying a sword doesn’t make you look manly when you have tights on.
Completely useless thing two: 2 hours is a very long time.
Completely useless thing three: You don’t have to understand what someone is saying to understand what they are saying.
Completely useless thing four: Boys have been stupid in every century.
Completely useless thing five: Capulet and Montague – said seven times fast sounds ridiculous.
Completely useless thing six: For a guy who spelt his name 4 different ways in his own will Shakespeare was pretty good and writing. (It makes me feel better about the fact that I am a terrible speller.)
Completely useless thing seven: A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
Yeah I like Shakespeare, what of it?
