the birthday dilemma

If you know me at all you know I don't like birthdays. Correction, I don't like my birthday.
I'm just not into them.
It's pretty ridiculous really because from about three months out I am counting the days (23 sleeps to go if your were wondering) and making lists about things I want to do and presents I would like. I totally buy into the hype.
For some reason or another I always end up disappointed. It's like as soon as I make a plan it finds a way to unmake its self. For as long as I can remember I have ended the day thinking, 'well that's it I guess...'
So this year I'm making no less lists and no plans (ok so maybe a couple of plans but nothing big). Yes I am counting sleeps but I refuse to buy into the hype. I'm going to have an awesome day just because the world is beautiful and there for me to enjoy. The fact that it's my birthday will just a bonus.

I'm going to be spontaneous, I'm going to enjoy the company of my friends and family, I'm going to eat cake and have fun. That my friends is about as far as my planing goes.
I'm going to leave my teenage self behind with a new out look on birthdays and life.
I'll get back to you in 23 days and let you know how it went.

eleven

More than enough information about me. Please play along or I will feel lame, like I have no friends.

There are five rules:
1
// Post these rules.
2 // Post a photo of yourself and 11 random things.
3 // Answer the questions set for you in the original post.
4 // Create 11 new questions and tag people to answer them.
5 // Go to their blog/twitter and tell them you've tagged them.

Eleven random things:
1 // I don't like my ice-cream to touch my cake/fruit/pudding/other tasty dessert. Two separate bowls!
2 // I am number 3 of 4 children.
3 // I bite my nails
4 // I walk and talk in my sleep. It's kinda creepy.
5 // I have never broken a bone.
6 // My fish just died.
7 // I still think 'ballet dancer' is an appropriate answer to what I want to be when I 'grow up.'
8 // I have a yellow belt in Zanshin Shotokan. Look out or all go all ninja on you butt.
9 // I have a tattoo and 6 piercings.
10 // I only eat white marshmallows.
11 // I don't like I step on the cracks in concrete. I adjust my step so I don't even stand on the joins.

My answers to Lou's question's:
1 // The best birthday present you ever received?
A swing set. Although I don't remember receiving them its common knowledge around our house that I credited this awesome gift to my Poppy. My two year old self could not be convinced that Mum got them for me. They have served our family and friends well ever since.
2 // Your go-to, never-fail meal?
Mashed vegetables. Go heavy on the pumpkin and stir in the peas and corn at the end- there is nothing worse than mushy peas.
3 // Your most unfortunate holiday experience?
I have ridiculously light skin. The rest of my siblings are the kind of people who spend two minuets in the sun and go brown. Any outing, any holiday adventure always ended with me looking like a tomato and possibly adopted amongst a family of bronzed beautiful people.
4 // One thing that you wish you had?
I wish I had a Bachelor of Arts (Ministry) Essentially I wish I could be finished studying without any work.
5 // Your Facebook friends: The more the merrier or select few?
I only add people I know and by know I mean have met. I wish I was a less is more kind of person but I'm such a sticky beak I want to know about people.
6 // Your shoe size?
Embarrassingly big. Please keep in mind I am tall. I'm a ladies 10-11.
7 // What names are NOT on your baby names list? If you don't have a list, just pretend you do!
Trevor, Bill and Jessica. There isn't anything wrong with them or people who have those names I just don't like them.
8 // Your morning routine?
Alarm. Wake up. Alarm. When did I go back to sleep? Grump at anyone who asks a question. Shower with my eyes closed. Dry my hair for 25 minuets. Change my clothes 6 times. Eat something. Brush teeth. Try to smile till I stop feeling like a zombie.
9 // Your favourite thing about blogging?
There is a place where it's ok to talk about whatever I like and there is a small chance someone would like to read it. To top it off there are hundreds of interesting blogs to be discovered, conversations to join and games to play.
10 // What were you like at age 16?
A little selfish. Passionate. Not as smart as I thought, but not stupid. Messy. Unmotivated. Learning how to be better.
11 // What is your biggest accomplishment thus far in life?
Living till now. It's not that impressive in the scheme things but I'm pretty proud of the last 20 years.

My Question's:
1 // What is your youngest memory?
2 // What would you never do? Not even for a million dollars.
3 // What is your favorite word?
4 // How do your like bed? Messy or made?
5 // Would you rather be blind or deaf?
6 // Cereal or Toast? Why?
7 // What would your 12 year old self say they wanted to be when they grew up?
8 // What advice would you give yourself at that age?
9 // What are you afraid of?
10 // Winter? Summer? Spring? Autumn? Why?
11 // Do you snore?

bathrooms

I know what bathrooms are for. Cleaning, washing, singing in the shower, teeth brushing, applying make up and other general personal hygiene things.
However, it seems that I use bathrooms for other things.
Some of the most interesting conversations I have ever had, I had in bathrooms. Some of my best friendships had there defining moment in a bathroom. Some of my funniest moments have happened, in a bathroom.
Basically some of my favourite memories have come out of bathrooms.
I'm not really sure what it is about them. I just love them, they way the lights look, the way speaking sounds. With out a doubt it is my favourite room in the house. Even when I was little I used to hide out in the bathroom with the door locked. I would sit on the floor and sing.

What's your favourite room in the house?

the princess and the balloon

I like to think that I have experienced some pretty cool things in my (almost) 20 years of living. I've done some pretty cool stuff and met some amazing people.

A recent addition to my life is my new friend Melanie and her beautiful daughter. The two of them rock my world.
Seriously.

Suddenly I find myself worrying about 1pm being nap time, I wonder if we need to make another toilet stop and enjoy hanging out at the park.
I love every second of it. I love that I have a three year old friend who affectionately calls me Balloon - even when she knows my name is Lauren. I love when she teaches me words in Spanish and and asks me very seriously if she can use my phone for a minute.

I just adore both of them and suddenly I can imagine life without them in it.

rain on a tin roof

It's no secret I'm a bit of a night owl. I seem to have a total inability to turn off my brain at an appropriate time. It leaves me with a few hours of awake-ness when even one else is sleeping.
As of yet I haven't found a satisfying way to pass the time. So far tonight I have read a bunch of other blogs. Bible read for awhile. Considered making scrambled eggs. Listened to Tin Sparrow and accidentally kicked a book off my bed.
There is just something about night that makes me want to be awake.
Like right now I want to stay awake to listen to the rain on my tin roof. It's magic. If you weren't asleep you would want to stay awake too.
